Inför den ökande ekonomiska osäkerheten försöker nu fastlandskina och Taiwan stärka sin handel genom att göra sig av med de långdragna restriktionerna för transport över sundet.
Geografiskt så separeras Kinas fastland och Taiwan bara av 160 kilometer av hav. Men på grund av de historiska dispyterna så har flyg- och skeppsrutter tvingats ta omvägar genom ett tredje land eller territorium, ofta Hong Kong eller Japan, för att nå sina destinationer, säger BBC.
Den här veckan så tog de två territorierna stora steg genom att avbryta det nästan 60 år gamla förbudet mellan direkttrafik, i en åtgärd som har låtit vänta allt för länge enligt Business Week.
