Förhållandet mellan Kina och USA kan närmast beskrivas som en berg- och dalbana. Nu verkar det som om de senaste två incidenterna kommer ytterligare att försvåra samarbetet mellan stormakterna. Är ett framtida harmoniskt förhållande endast en politisk utopi?
En av de centrala frågorna som lagt gråa moln över de bilaterala förhållandena är USA:s beslut att leverera militär utrustning till Taiwan. Vice Premiärminister He Yafei uttalade sig i en rapport som publicerades av CRI att ”beslutet betraktas som en inblandning i Kinas interna frågor”. Kina har svarat på situationen med att bryta det militära samarbetet med USA. Däröver har de kinesiska myndigheterna förklarat att de kommer att introducera sanktioner gentemot de nordamerikanska bolage som varit inblandande i incidenten, skriver The Washington Post. Bruce Lemkin, biträdande chef på USA:s flygvapen, anser att Kina överreagerat på situationen, anger en rapport i The Canadian Press.
Barack Obamas planerade möte med Dalai Lamautgör en annan tvistefråga i Kinas och USA:s samarbete. En högt ställd kinesisk partiledare har, enligt CNN, uttryckt sig om att, ”det potentiella mötet skadar ländernas förhållanden och såldes tänker den kinesiska administrationen ta till olika sorts åtgärder för att visa relevanta länder deras misstag”.
En viss mängd spänning kan alltid förväntas då två stormakter tävlar om politiskt inflytande och makt. Kommer Kina och USA att finna en lösning till dessa tvistefrågor eller kommer länderna alltid att befinna sig i en situation som präglas av politisk konflikt?
