myndigheter om att de tillfångatagit fyra chefer från det angloamerikanska företaget Rio Tinto. Personerna misstänks för spionage och för stöld av statshemligheter. Är detta en reaktion på den misslyckade storfusionen mellan Rio Tinto och Chinalco? Samarbetet uppskattades vara värt 13.5 miljarder euro.
I en artikel i Time.com uttalar sig en mängd observatörer att fallet verkligen är detta. Artikeln redogör också att Kinas lagstiftning beträffande statshemligheter och dess enkla implementering i olika situationer kan ha en dålig inverkan på landets handelsrelationer i global bemärkelse.
De kinesiska myndigheterna har förklarat att de har tillräckligt med bevis mot personerna i fråga. Utrikesministeriets talesman Qin Gang sade att de misstänkta personernas handlingar orsakat enorma förluster till landets ekonomi och riskerat dess säkerhet, rapporterar China.org.cn. Anställda på Rio Tinto beskylls för att ha erbjudit mutor till personer på stålföretaget i utbyte mot förhandsuppgifter beträffande Kinas förhandlingsmetodik och inställning.
